Deb Ellis - Sample of Recent Projects: Complex Instruction: An Overview of Work in Vermont (producer/editor) Commissioned by the Vermont Institutes, the 12 minutes video introduces teachers to concepts of Complex Instruction, a pedagogical approach that looks at all children as contributors to the learning process, encourages group work, and addresses issues of diversity in the classroom. A
Shade Of Ebony Video (producer) – Shades is a group designed
to support Black Students in the Burlington School system and the Burlington
community. During the spring of '02, I worked with a group of Shades
youth creating a short video about their experiences in school and Vermont
in general. The year, the
young people will take the video to city government and school officials
to instigate conversations about racism in our community. 03/03 tape used as "kick-off"
for city-wide initiative “Discussion Groups on Racism” program. From
Inside Out: Creating the Public Schools – This tape documents
the creative process of a group of high school students engaged in choreographing
a dance piece. The video
was created as part of an effort of the WEB Project (a federally funded
project devoted to innovative, project-based
learning in the arts, humanities, and social sciences) to demonstrate
and validate the learning processes gained through participation in
the arts.
Nursing's
Great (editor/co-producer) – a video created as part of an
effort to heighten the awareness of the nursing profession in young
children. The film was
commissioned by a local nurse, and subsequently taken to numerous conferences
and is in nationwide distribution.
Women
Can Do – Public Service Announcement (camera/editor) - produced
for Northeast Women in Trades announcing classes to women interested
in becoming involved in the building trades
Waldo
and Woodhead, (editor) - physical comedians and video stars in El
Gleno Grande Presents A Horse of a Different Color, a 30 minute
comical showcase video distributed nationwide.
The
Elves and the Shoemaker (editor) – a recreation of the folktale
directed by local filmmaker Mary Arbuckle in collaboration with school
children. The tape won
several children's film awards.
Middlebury
College NESN Ads - aired during broadcast football and hockey games.
These ads have been fun to produce!
